Regional Plan for James River

  • Develop a regional plan for the James River
  • Create vision of how the river can enhance areas within the Region

Improve Access to the River

  • Improve access to the James River along both sides of the river throughout the region (i.e., overcome railroad, flood plain, and private property obstacles)
  • Improve parking and staging capacity

Improve Safety and Safety Perception

  • Improve security solutions along river (e.g. James River Park)
  • Promote waterfront as safe area for recreation and entertainment

Market the River

  • Create clear regional map of river resources and access
  • Provide online access and guides to river usage (e.g., trails, swimming and recreation access points, boating landings)
  • Market the James River along with historical resources to draw tourism from outside of the region
