Why It's Important

High crime rates are always a deterrent to thriving communities. Employers are unable to recruit workers to relocate to areas with crime and safety issues. High crime rates often correlate with high poverty rates, underperforming school systems, and fewer jobs. They also can be a barrier to participating in arts and cultural activities.

In the Richmond Region, this statistic increased from 232.2 to 236.5 since 2014.
